B & B Lawn Care Website Story and Experience

Blake Albertson describing his experience after having Bryan Ring build his company website using the WordPress platform. He is the owner of B & B Lawn Care located in Kansas City, Missouri.

We met via Periscope and became familiar with each others businesses. Soon after finding his YouTube Channel, it was clear that this guy loves what he does!

The rest is somewhat history, I built his company website & in October of 2016 met face to face at the GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Kentucky. He is what you hear and see on his videos, down to earth guy with complete conviction.

Toro Disappointment

January of 2016 I visited the Toro booth at the Minneapolis Convention Center for the annual Northern Green Expo. I was interested in the 2016 60″ Grandstand Multi Force and the representative introduced me to the Multi Force. Immediately I had this glaze come over my eyes. alex-on-grnadstand-multi-force

The representative pulled out his IPhone and started showing me attachments for this machine that would be coming out this year. My mind was blown! A compact machine for mowing & snow?

That Spring I went to my equipment dealer (Gruber’s Power Equipment – Maplewood, Minnesota) to purchase this machine. Speaking with one of their employees about the attachments, I voiced how the sweeper attachment would be a game changer for my company.

He told me that attachment was not ready for purchase yet, but was reassured by Toro that it would be ready around Fall time. So I dropped the $8k on the 60″ deck machine.

In September my family & I visited the Minnesota State Fair. And you know I had to stop by the Toro booth. Speaking with two friendly representatives about the Multi Force, they were amazed by this machine. Since I felt like it was going to be a game changer for us, I wanted to pick their brains about the attachments.

I spoke of how I purchased this machine and the two facets it was going to serve my family lawn care operation of 15 years and they thought that was brilliant. They too reassured me that the sweeper was going to be for sale this Fall as well.

The next month (October) I visited the GIE+Expo in Louisville, Kentucky with some friends and made many more friends at this get together. Of course I had to stop by the Toro booth and there it was, the game changer!

The sweeper attachment that was going to limit how many people I needed to hire for snow removal this year. Man handle all of my commercial accounts that have a one inch tolerance.

The attachment did not hit the market for sale. This gathering in Louisville, Kentucky is where I find out from one of the Toro representative’s, that the sweeper will not be available until Spring of 2017. I thought, well this is just perfect.

We have been running all Toro 60″ sit down zero-turns for years & then I jump out and purchase a stander in hopes of having a Multi Purpose machine. Not 100% actually needing this machine for lawn mowing, this was more than a disappointment.

I completely stand behind the Toro product, as a matter of fact I have pointed several other landscape company owners to Toro. More than a few have actually purchased Toro machines from my equipment dealer, because of my more than satisfied experience.

Let’s face it, Toro & Ring Lawn Care are apart of this industry for more than the equipment we sell and use. We are in the people business. People do not like false promises.

UPDATE

Yes I was very disappointed with Toro not releasing the broom attachment ($6875) when they announced the market release time frame. Well, as you can see I got it, finally! It really is everything that I thought it would be.

Plenty of power, speed, and efficiency. We have experienced some slipping, but we did not purchase the wheel weights, merely because they want $380 for a set. Instead, we have our own weights from an old machine that has been sufficient. Also, purchased a set of rubber tire chains ($120) and the snow tires ($250).

Overall very pleased. The price tag is hefty, but in our case the broom attachment was already paid for prior to our order, merely due to all of the lawns mowed in 2016 with the Grandstand itself. Highly recommend if you can afford it. It will make your life a little less stressful if commercial sidewalks need to be tackled on a regular basis.

Why You Should Not Quit On Your Landscape Business

Why You Should Not Quit On Your Landscape Business

ringahding-2016-november

Wow, fifteen years went by like that, I am so grateful I did not quit. Many times I look back on how it all started. That 1995 Mini-Van, old tilt-bed boat trailer and of course the John Deere mower that was older than me at the time, got me started. Yes, there were many years of figuring out what customers need and how to make the phone ring. Believing in my work ethic, customers and the employees that have worked here over the years, it was all worth the wait.

Many landscape business owners get to a point in their career and just think about quitting. I know that was a reality for me in the Spring of 2011. One property management group decided they did not want to pay for snow plowing. Their bill reached a little over $4,000 and it left me with no start-up money that Spring.

One day I received an email from another customer asking me about services and how the winter went. To make a long story short, I informed her, excluding the name of the property management group. This was on a Friday. The very next Monday, I headed to the mailbox and found this customer sent a $1000 prepay check for services. At that time Ring Lawn Care’s policy was not asking for prepay monies. Overjoyed and having a new outlook, this was the year we turned the peripheral corner.

I built our company website and it was gaining traction quick that year. People in our service areas started to take notice. And I shook hands with many customers in attempts to gain their business. Tons of footwork, but well worth it.

Today we are looking towards the future, not forgetting all the moments that got us here. Also today, I have been on a mission to help those who are thinking about quitting their landscape business. By telling my story and the actual time it took to see real results, has been my motivation to share.

My first five (2002-2007) years in business taught me more than I ever could have imagined about life and business. It showed me what I am made of. Those first five years showed me what I was going to become. Teaching me new ways of conducting myself, not just as a business owner, but as a person.

The five years (2011-2016) after building our company website, is the main reason I can write this article today. Our website has become our number one lead generator. These years also have me reflecting on all the people I have met over my business career.

Many customers have seen my growth in the community as well. Some have left nice reviews. There have been emails, letters in the mail, phone calls or face to face compliments. Had I quit that Spring, we would have missed out on what could have been. Could have been is here now.

Currently writing this from my second home, located three miles from the property we called home for sixteen years. Two of my five children currently rent this home with their significant others and children. To say that I have built a legacy would be an understatement. My children will now have something from me to give them a leg up on life.

The gratitude I have for making it this far would not even be possible without people. Many customers and the many peers I have met through the Lawn and Snow Industry have made it possible for me to provide for my family.

Without the guidance of some customers and peers, we could not provide outdoor services the way we do. Through it all, it has made me grow as a man and business owner. And for that, I will be forever grateful.

After The 2016 GIE+EXPO

After The 2016 GIE+EXPO

The experience of the 2016 GIE+EXPO I am convinced is going to leave an everlasting impression on me. The people I met and friendships that have been made are absolutely astounding.

After this experience cannot be overlooked either. Many have essentially knocked on my  door seeking gugieidance. Incredibly humbled and more than willing to help any fellow man if I can. This audio is from my Persicope platform, discussing my experience.

Mentioning several peers that have made an impact on my growth in this industry, such as: Blake Albertson, Brian Shain, Kevin Frost, Naylor Taliaferro, Stanley Genadek, Andrew Wilson and Keith Kalfas.
